Signature Assignment: Trauma-Sensitive Schools: Systems of Supports (95 Points)
Based on previous and current learning, candidates will create a plan for adopting a multitiered approach to addressing
trauma and mental health needs of students in the pk-12 school setting. This development plan will include an initial
assessment of the current levels, or lack thereof, each tier and the following elements found in each tier of an MTSS
model:
● Develop Tier 1 universal supports covering
▪ School wide supports for all students
▪ Staff Development needed
▪ Implementation
▪ Describe how these universal supports will create a safe and supportive Environment for all
students
▪ Social-Emotional Learning needs (ex: classroom lessons conducted each semester, SEL
curriculum used school wide, etc.)
● Develop Tier 2 small group supports
▪ Referral process
▪ Assessment used to determine student needs
▪ Plan for Providing Support (logistics: who, what, where, when)
▪ Build Social-Emotional Learning for “At-Risk” Students (e.g., the “how”)
● Specify interventions, curriculum, strategies, skill building, for small groups
● Develop Tier 3 targeted supports for individual students
▪ Referral process
▪ Services provided under tier 3
▪ Objectives
▪ Desired Outcomes
● Define and detail ways to communicate and collaborate with students and families
● Policies and procedures that may need to be in place for the MTSS to be effective
● Detailed model of the MTSS must be included in the write up (using the traditional pyramid format of an MTSS)
Each candidate will write a paper describing each tier and the specific supports needed. Research for each tier must
be included using peer review journal articles, evidence-based curriculum, or any other scholarly reviewed materials.
This paper should be 6-8 pages in length and must be written in APA 7
th edition.
